I looked back in our records and noticed that we haven't had a TCSC bike ride at Onondaga Lake Park (OLP) in two years. The photos are from that ride. It's time to do my favorite destination bike ride with its gorgeous lake view from different vantage points, stately trees and a marina. I, Jill Darling, am hosting our OLP bike ride.
We'll meet in the parking lot of Griffin Visitor Center at 10:30 am and start the ride at 11 am. The center has spacious restrooms for changing clothes afterward and a fountain to fill water bottles.
The ride is an easy, flat ride on smooth pavement with a few slight grades and is only 16.2 miles roundtrip, unless you want to go longer around Long Branch Park and the Good Dog Park area, which is an extra 3.75 miles, making it 20-miles. Hard core riders are welcome to go for the gusto and leave the recreational, hop-off-for-a-photo riders in the dust. You can go as long or as short as you want. No pressure to perform--it's your ride. Some people have ridden four times a week over the summer and some have hardly ridden. We're here to go at our own paces and enjoy the day. Check out the trail around the lake on the Onondaga Lake Park downloadable map.
Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, weather appropriate clothing, first aid supplies for yourself and your bike. We'll stop at St. Joseph's Health Amphitheater for a restroom break and snack break.
We'll have an after party at Heid's hot dog venue, which is across from OLP. Next door to Heid's is an ice cream place that's a must-do.
For more information about the bike ride, email Jill Darling or text 607-239-1029.
Enjoy a Day of Hiking and Waterfall Viewing
Spend a fall Saturday visiting three waterfalls in Central New York with short hikes of about 1 mile at each location included. Hikes are optional. Since they are short, non-hikers can stay to enjoy the waterfalls and parks while others hike. All three areas have handicap accessibility to view the falls. Guests are welcome. Include your guest numbers when you sign up.
First, We’ll visit Tinker Falls at the Labrador Hollow Unique Area and the boardwalk by the pond. The 1,483-acre Labrador Hollow Unique Area is well known for its hiking trails and fishing in addition to the waterfall.
Then, we’ll drive to Delphi Falls near Fabius where we’ll eat a picnic lunch. Bring your own and something to share, if you wish.
Delphi Falls was purchased by Madison County in 2018. In 2022, accessible parking spaces and restrooms, new trails, overlooks of the falls, and a multipurpose building for events were added.
Finally, we’ll head over to Pratt’s Falls near Manlius. The park's most popular attraction is the scenic trail leading to the beautiful 137 ft. waterfall. Formed by retreating glaciers, it was the site of Onondaga County's first mill operation in 1796. A $2 parking fee is listed online, which I believe is seasonal. We did not have to pay on Labor Day weekend.
Last stop before heading home will be Onco Fermentations in Tully for beer and food, unless you prefer to head home.
Where to Meet: In the McDonald's parking lot in Whitney Point at 9:30 a.m. From there we can carpool and caravan. It's about 45 minutes to the first stop, Labrador Hollow Unique Area and Tinker Falls.
Maps and directions will be emailed a day before the trip to those who are signed up. Some copies will be available that morning.

Activity organizer is Ingrid Jordak and co-leader is Eileen Hanrahan.
What: A fall weekend at an historic lodge on Raquette Lake in the Adirondacks. Activities include lots of great hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing (bring your own equipment). Check out The Wild Center in Tupper Lake; The Adirondack Scenic Railroad in Thendara; Revolution Rail Co. in North Creek; McCauley Mountain for chair lift rides and mountain biking. The Adirondack Experience in Blue Mountain Lake is definitely worth a visit as is the nearby Great Camp Sagamore. Please check the Old Forge area website for activities if you are looking for things to do. Or, just kick back, unplug and unwind. Additional plans for outings can be made once everyone is registered.
Where: The Main Lodge at Antlers, part of SUNY Cortland's William H. Parks Family Center for Environmental and Outdoor Education.
Link to Directions: Driving Directions GPS address to the Main Lodge is 540 Antlers Road, Raquette Lake, NY.
When: Oct. 10-13, 2025, Friday to Monday (3 nights)
Cost: $162 per person for three nights, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Sign up: Register online and pay the $50 deposit via credit card to reserve your spot on a first-come, first-served basis. Each club member must register individually. The balance of $112 is due preferably at or before the September general membership meeting, by check made out to TCSC and given to Ingrid Jordak or mailed to her at 244 Greenwood Road, Lisle, NY 13797. Deadline for balance payments is 2 weeks prior to begining of trip.
Accommodations: All rooms have new toilets, sinks and showers. Rooms are assigned based on time of registration.
There are also two half bathrooms in the downstairs with a toilet and sink. All rooms have single spring beds and bunk beds with a woolen blanket and pillow. You'll need to bring towels, a sleeping bag or sheets and pillow case. Bring your own blankets and pillow if you wish.
All of the rooms, including bedrooms, in the Main Lodge are heated. WiFi is available on the property, but cell service is spotty. AT&T seems to work well. This is an opportunity to unplug and reconnect with nature and friends.
The lodge's common areas are spacious and comfortable. All kitchen and cleaning supplies are provided. We have to clean up and leave the lodge as we found it. We always leave it better! There are complete kitchen facilities to prepare meals, including refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffeemaker, crockpots, pots and pans, and utensils, dishes and silverware. Bring your own breakfasts and plan your own lunches.
In the past, we have planned potluck dinners. Bring your choice of beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic and a cooler to keep them cold. Raquette Lake Navigation may offer delicious dinner and brunch cruises on the weekends along with other cruises.
Read and agree to the ADK Trip Policy when you register.
NOTE! Registration is set at 15 for more comfortable sleeping arrangements. If reservations are full, please add your name to the waitlist.
Want to know more? View our photos from past weekends in our Photo Albums or send Ingrid Jordak an email or text message 607-221-4606.

Additional Info The Killington Race Camp is a great way to improve your skiing. The camp uses a GS race format to teach the students how to make well-controlled, effective, efficient ski turns and link those turns smoothly.
There were 39 TCSC members in attendance last year. The other 50 or so students at the camp are in a similar age range and skiing ability as members of our club. There are usually 10 - 15 groups created at the start of the week based on skiing ability. There are about 6 or 7 skiers in each group. You'll have the same instructor all week. The lower level groups spend less time on race-specific topics and more time on "turn mechanics" and improving their free-skiing. The higher level groups spend more time on the race course running gates. Everyone spends some time running gates.
Why would you consider a race-based camp if you don't plan on racing? It's all about effectiveness and cost. The reason most people are not skiing with the confidence, control and enjoyment that they seek is because their ski turns are not up to par. There is no better place to learn to make good ski turns than at a GS race camp. Anyone can go straight down the hill, but how effective are your turns? Have you ever noticed the Olympic stars like Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin and Ted Ligety struggling with their turns? Hardly ever, right? At the Killington Camp, you'll be taught the same elements of coordination and timing that the Olympians and World Cup skiers employ. (Although it's unlikely you will end up in the Olympics. Sorry about that.) While you are working on developing the proper movements and coordination associated with good turns, the instructors (especially in the lower groups) do NOT encourage speed. When your "turning issues" are corrected and you begin to employ a better technique, then additional speed becomes an option that YOU can choose based on your comfort level. Whether you want to ski fast or slow, the ingredients for good turns are the same. You choose the speed you want to ski, but if you don't know how to make good turns, you're stuck at a skill level called the "intermediate rut" and your options are limited. Attending the Killington Race Camp is a great way to get out of the "intermediate rut" and the price is a fraction of what it would be at "all-mountain" ski camps. There are camps in Colorado and California that do "all-mountain" training, but the cost is usually more than twice as much and that's before you buy a plane ticket, rental car and hotel room!
So Killington will teach you a lot of important concepts that you need to improve your "all-mountain" skiing. Overall, you'll have the opportunity to learn how to make great ski turns for a very reasonable price and have a lot of fun in the process. Racers and non-racers come back to this camp year-after-year to "tune-up" their skiing at the beginning of each season. Who knows, you might find that you really like the racing part, too! (Just to be clear, the "non-racers" who attend the RACE camp WILL spend some time running gates on a race course even if they are in the lowest group. But you are free to "bail-out" of any portion of the race camp that you want, and rejoin the class later. Killington recommends that anyone attending the race camp should be able to ski a blue trail. If you have questions about this, speak with Tim.
